Blessed Endurance

Two-minute read.

A few days ago, I talked about a wintry beach walk in blustery winds that made us want to quit. But we couldn’t. To go home, we had to go through the cold air blowing forcefully at us. I remember feeling like we would never reach our destination, the wind winning the battle. Thankfully, through blessed endurance, we reached the safety of our car and its protection.

James reminds believers that trials give us opportunities to grow and endure. Like the strong winds blowing against us, life brings challenges, disappointments, and seasons of testing, but God sees every struggle and act of faithfulness.

Eventually, the storm winds subside, the sun breaks through, and the ocean sparkles, creating a spectacular view. However, if we quit halfway through the journey, we miss the reward that awaits us. Struggles make the trip difficult, but when we continue trusting the Lord through the storm, we discover His strength, presence, and faithfulness in ways we never could have experienced otherwise.

Like most people, I prefer not to have the many struggles that abound in this life. However, in those valleys, I grow and mature the most. Perseverance means continuing to trust God, even when life gets tough. Choosing faith over fear, hope over despair, and obedience over giving up helps us keep going.

Our heavenly Father gives us a picture of the eternal reward and blessing that awaits us, the crown of life. Earthly struggles don’t last, but the Lord’s promises never end. We can keep moving forward because we serve a trustworthy Savior who keeps His word.

James encourages us to keep going, knowing God walks through the storm winds with us. In every trial, the Savior sees our faithfulness, never overlooking even the smallest steps of obedience.

Keep going. One step at a time, the Lord will help you persevere.
