Two-minute read.

One winter, a friend and I decided to drive to the beach for the day. As we stepped onto the sand, bundled up in jeans and sweatshirts, we walked with the wind. After an hour or so, we turned to walk back and realized we had a long journey ahead. The wind had picked up, small swirls of sand whipping here and there. Bending our heads, we felt the force of nature on our faces. Each step took effort.
We had no choice.
The prize lay ahead of us.
To return to the warmth of our car, we had to keep walking. By focusing our eyes straight ahead, we progressed. Not letting the wind disturb us, focusing on the next step, we walked steadily along.
Solomon encourages readers to live with focus, wisdom, and spiritual decision-making. When he became king, God asked Solomon what he wanted. David’s son asked for wisdom, and the Lord made him the wisest man ever to live, pleased that Solomon didn’t ask for wealth or power.
Life comes with distractions. Solomon faced them, and so do we. Temptations and detours can pull our attention away from the Savior and His purpose for us. If we constantly look back or sideways at other people’s actions, we’ll lose our way. Only when we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and the path He has placed before us, will we receive the prize.
Wise living doesn’t happen accidentally. Like Solomon, we can ask God for wisdom and live with discernment, discipline, and willingness to follow the Lord’s guidance, even when shortcuts appear nearby.
The safest path doesn’t mean the easiest. But when we keep our eyes on Jesus, He will lead us to wisdom, peace, and spiritual stability. When the headwinds blow, they won’t stop our journey. Following God will guide our steps so we can walk confidently rather than aimlessly wander.
