{"id":73,"date":"2017-06-18T20:53:51","date_gmt":"2017-06-18T20:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=73"},"modified":"2019-12-10T08:44:39","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T13:44:39","slug":"in-god-we-trust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2017\/06\/18\/in-god-we-trust\/","title":{"rendered":"In God We Trust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>&#8220;It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in people.&#8221; Psalm 118:8<\/i><\/b><br \/>\nThis is one of my favorite verses, it comes to mind often when dealing with people. \u00a0There are many different translations. \u00a0KJV says, &#8220;It is better to trust in the Lord&#8230;&#8221;. \u00a0It is so true, it is in God we must trust, not man.<br \/>\nI played a golf tournament yesterday with a lovely group of ladies. \u00a0One of them was a retired banker. \u00a0We were joking at one point about the motto of her old softball team:<br \/>\n&#8220;In God we trust, all others we audit.&#8221;<br \/>\nI think it&#8217;s a great paraphrase of Psalm 118:8, which by the way is the center verse of the Bible. \u00a0I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s a coincidence. \u00a0In the very heart of God&#8217;s word, He tells us to trust Him. \u00a0That seems about right.<br \/>\nThe truth is, we do need to audit people. \u00a0We can&#8217;t put all of our trust in humans. \u00a0For one thing, it&#8217;s not fair to put that much pressure on a person. \u00a0Secondly, no one can live up to that expectation, not even me. \u00a0Only God can be completely trusted.<br \/>\nTrust is such a fragile thing and can be so easily fractured. \u00a0Sadly, once broken, it is hard to repair. \u00a0When someone lies to me, it breaks my heart in ways that nothing else is capable of doing.<br \/>\nI wonder why they felt the need to lie? \u00a0What is it about me that makes them not feel comfortable telling me the truth? \u00a0It makes me feel that I have failed them as a friend. \u00a0It&#8217;s something I don&#8217;t understand.<br \/>\nIronically, often times we lie because we think we&#8217;re protecting the person. \u00a0Inevitably though, it hurts worse than if the truth had been told in the first place.<br \/>\nThankfully, we aren&#8217;t called to trust people. \u00a0We are called to love them. \u00a0You can love people you don&#8217;t trust. \u00a0They may not be your closest confidante, but you can still love them.<br \/>\nJesus knew better than to trust people:<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;But Jesus didn&#8217;t trust them, because he knew human nature.&#8221; \u00a0John 2:24<\/i><br \/>\nBut He does love us, and we&#8217;re to love others:<br \/>\n<i>\u201cA new command I give you: Love one another.
