<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nDaily Reading:<\/strong> Isaiah 54:1-57:14 ESV<\/a>, Ephesians 6:1-24 ESV<\/a>, Psalm 70:1-5 ESV<\/a>, Proverbs 24:8 ESV<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Daily Verse:<\/strong> \u201cPut on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes <\/em>of the devil.\u201d (Ephesians 6:11 ESV<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n METHODEIA (3180): <\/strong>\u201cDenotes \u201ccraft, deceit\u201d (meta<\/em>, \u201cafter,\u201d hodos<\/em>, \u201ca way\u201d), \u201ca cunning device, a wile,\u201d and is translated in Eph 6:11 \u201cthe wiles (plural) of the Devil.\u201d[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Cunning device.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Three cunning devices give the devil ample material with which he tempts us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFor all that is in the world\u2014the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life\u2014is not from the Father but is from the world.\u201d (1 John 2:16 ESV<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Desires of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life summarize the devils\u2019 schemes. Just like with Eve, the serpent used the desire of her flesh by tempting her with the apple, convincing Eve she should satisfy her passions rather than waiting on God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eve\u2019s eyes gave her information about the fruit. The tempting apple looked so good; why would God not want her to have it? We become vulnerable to the devil\u2019s ploys when we see something we want. Satan understands our human desires and uses them against us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And we battle pride just like Eve; we all want to know what God knows. But none of us do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pure heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n To resist the devil\u2019s schemes, we must keep our hearts pure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBlessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.\u201d (Matthew 5:8 ESV<\/strong><\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus defeated Satan\u2019s temptations by responding with scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You must keep the Son in your eyes if you want a pure heart. Jesus helps us defeat the devil’s schemes, but only if we stay focused on Him. Satan tries to lure us away, but Jesus protects us from His attacks. The next time the devil attacks, remind him who you serve.
