Daily Verse:<\/strong> \u201cSo Jesus said to Peter, \u201cPut your sword into its sheath<\/em>; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?\u201d (John 18:11 ESV<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THEKE (2336): <\/strong>\u201cA place to put something in, a receptacle, chest, case, is used of the \u201csheath\u201d of a sword.\u201d[i]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place to put.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter, defending Jesus, slices off Malchus\u2019 right ear.  The servant of the high priest came with the religious leaders to arrest Jesus.  Immediately, Jesus heals the offense and reprimands Peter, telling him to put his sword away.  The sheath Peter wears the place to put his weapon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things need a place, just like Peter\u2019s sword needed a home.  The sheath protects the sword from the elements, keeping it honed and ready for use.  But the casing also protects Peter from accidentally getting cut by the weapon’s sharp blade.  Much like what happens to us when we place our faith in Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place for faith.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrestling with the spiritual side of life leads people to one question.  Where do I place my faith?  We need somewhere to put the mysteries of the unknown.  People look for salvation in all types of ways, money, relationships, and religion, to name a few.  Only one path exists for all, Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Placing faith in Jesus protects us from the enemies\u2019 attacks.  Putting on God\u2019s armor makes us ready for battle, just like Peter\u2019s sword.  Jesus purifies our hearts as we give them to Him, protecting us from ourselves.  Our internal struggles more complicated than the external ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peace comes no other way than through Jesus.  Knowing where to place your faith will lead you to eternal life.  Put your trust in Jesus; let Him lead the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
