And she went up to him and said, \u201cLord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.\u201d&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+10%3A40&amp;version=ESV\">Luke 10:40 ESV<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PERISPAO (4049): <\/strong>\u201cTo drag all around, i.e., to distract (with care).\u00a0 Literally means to draw around, to draw away, to distract and is used in the passive voice in the sense of being over occupied about a thing; cumbered.\u201d<a id=\"_ednref1\" href=\"#_edn1\">[i]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Draw away.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Missing the moment happens because of distraction.&nbsp; Something draws us away from the present to somewhere else.&nbsp; Martha\u2019s distraction made her miss Christ, so obsessed with her sister she couldn\u2019t see Jesus.&nbsp; Instead of helping Martha serve, Mary sat at Jesus\u2019 feet, soaking in His teaching.&nbsp; Martha missed the moment because her thoughts drew her away from the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Distraction\u2019s subtlety makes it hard to recognize.&nbsp; Martha didn\u2019t intentionally focus her thoughts on Mary instead of Jesus.&nbsp; No, something got her going on the rabbit trail. Ideas like \u201clook at her over there, not doing a thing,\u201d lead to \u201cshe never helps,\u201d which leads to \u201cI think she does it on purpose,\u201d and on and on.&nbsp; Our mind captures us in a narrative we made up, not even close to reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Develop an anchor.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My husband will tell you; I can go down some dark rabbit trails with my thoughts.&nbsp; I have created narratives in my mind and believed lies as truth in the past.&nbsp; Breaking down those walls happens with Jesus, my anchor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we view the world through Jesus\u2019 eyes, we see the humanity in all of us. Instead of demonizing people, Jesus changes our perspective, giving us one that recognizes hurting people hurt people. Everyone on earth struggles with pain and suffering; unseen hurt exists in us.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe, if Martha listened to Jesus\u2019 teaching instead of focusing on Mary\u2019s failing, she might have learned a thing or two.&nbsp; Instead of letting her mind spiral out of control, she could have enjoyed time at the Master\u2019s feet.&nbsp; Jesus told her, Mary had made the better choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cBut the Lord answered her,\u00a0\u201cMartha, Martha, you are\u00a0anxious and troubled about many things,\u00a0but one thing is necessary.\u00a0Mary has chosen\u00a0the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+10%3A41-42+&amp;version=ESV\">Luke 10:41-41 ESV<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let go of your narrative today; choose the good portion instead.&nbsp; Make Jesus your anchor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a id=\"_edn1\" href=\"#_ednref1\">[i]<\/a> Strong, J., &amp; Strong, J.
