{"id":4099,"date":"2021-07-13T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=4099"},"modified":"2021-06-21T14:28:24","modified_gmt":"2021-06-21T19:28:24","slug":"how-gods-word-will-make-you-resist-temptation-in-your-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2021\/07\/13\/how-gods-word-will-make-you-resist-temptation-in-your-life\/","title":{"rendered":"How God&#8217;s Word Will Make You Resist Temptation in Your Life"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2 minute read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7.13-1024x761.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4100\" width=\"331\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7.13-1024x761.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7.13-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7.13-768x570.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7.13-1536x1141.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7.13.jpg 1738w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Daily Reading: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Chronicles%202&amp;version=GW\">1 Chronicles 2 GW<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke%204&amp;version=GW\">Luke 4 GW<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scripture has an answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the subtitle \u201cThe Devil Tempts Jesus\u201d in the Bible, we learn how to resist temptation using Scripture.&nbsp; After Jesus\u2019s baptism in the Jordan River, the Holy Spirit led him into the desert where the devil tempted Him for 40 days.&nbsp; Jesus didn\u2019t eat during this time.&nbsp; Essentially, Jesus fasted for 40 days, all the while the devil was tempting Him.&nbsp; With every temptation, Jesus responded with scripture:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201cA person cannot live on bread alone.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy%208%3A3&amp;version=NIV\">Deut. 8:3 NIV<\/a>)<\/li><li>\u201cWorship the Lord your God and serve only Him.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy%206%3A13&amp;version=NIV\">Deut. 6:13 NIV<\/a>)<\/li><li>\u201cNever tempt the Lord your God.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy%206:16&amp;version=NIV\">Deut. 6:16 NIV<\/a>)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No matter what the temptation, God has an answer. &nbsp; Jesus knew the scriptures inside and out.&nbsp; He had a ready answer on His lips because of His knowledge.&nbsp; When he was 12, Luke tells us Jesus spent His time in the temple courts,<em> \u201csitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking questions\u201d<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke%202%3A46&amp;version=NIV\">Luke 2:46 NIV<\/a>).&nbsp; Jesus knew the secret to resisting temptation was responding with God\u2019s word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Trust God\u2019s power.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Understanding all of us are targets of temptation for the devil helps us to develop a response.&nbsp; Paul reminds us in his letter to the Corinthians that God will provide a way out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cNo temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
