As pointed out in the book, the reason is simple, I&#8217;m not putting myself on my priority list.\u00a0 I&#8217;m putting taking care of others ahead of taking care of myself.\u00a0 The truth is, I can&#8217;t take care of others if I don&#8217;t take care of myself.<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s hard to swallow.\u00a0 It is also hard for me to swallow that I am a priority.\u00a0 I have spent so much time training myself in the JOY principle:\u00a0 Jesus, Others, Yourself it seems wrong to move myself up the list.\u00a0 But is it really moving myself up the list or being able to accomplish JOY better?<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t really consider it a promise to myself, rather a goal for this year, but I committed to doing two classes a week.\u00a0 A realistic goal I can achieve.\u00a0 It&#8217;s turned into doing Hot Yoga three times a week.\u00a0 I&#8217;m seven months in and I am stronger and healthier now than I was a year ago.\u00a0 I am able to care for others better because of this one &#8220;promise&#8221;.\u00a0 My joints aren&#8217;t hurting when I get up in the morning.\u00a0 I can walk without limping.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve lost weight.\u00a0 I even sleep better.\u00a0 All of these things make me a much nicer person to be around.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve made good health a priority.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve made my good health a priority and the rewards are paying off.<br \/>\nWhen you make promises to others do you rush into them or do you take time to think it through?\u00a0 When we don&#8217;t make promises lightly to others, it enables us to make sure we can keep them.\u00a0 It&#8217;s no different when you make a promise to yourself.\u00a0 Whatever it is, make sure it&#8217;s realistic and doable.<br \/>\nHere&#8217;s an example of the latest promise I have made to myself:\u00a0 fine tune my diet.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been slipping on my eating goals.\u00a0 I need to get back on track.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been telling myself for weeks I needed to do this, yet I haven&#8217;t done it.\u00a0 Thanks to a good friend who has helped me understand what I need to do, I now have a promise I can keep.<br \/>\nShe pointed out to me there are four components of eating healthy:\u00a0 Planning, Shopping, Cooking and Consuming.\u00a0 After many conversations, I realized my downfall is in the planning process.\u00a0 I definitely do not have a problem consuming.\u00a0 My husband does the cooking (yes I am very grateful).\u00a0 What woman doesn&#8217;t love shopping?\u00a0 However I&#8217;m failing to plan which is sabotaging all of the other four parts.<br \/>\nHere&#8217;s how I am going to keep this promise to myself.\u00a0 I have made reminders.\u00a0 Wednesday is my planning day.\u00a0 I am to come up with a meal plan for the following week.\u00a0 Thursday is the day my friend is going to hold me accountable to completing Wednesday.\u00a0 Friday is shopping day.\u00a0 Sunday is meal prep day.\u00a0 Then let the consuming begin.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve made a promise to myself and I&#8217;m determined to keep it.<br \/>\nWhat promise have you made to yourself you haven&#8217;t kept?\u00a0 What can you do today to start keeping it?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;But let\u00a0[a]your \u2018Yes\u2019 be \u2018Yes,\u2019 and your \u2018No,\u2019 \u2018No.\u2019&#8221;
