 \u201cMoses also said, \u201cYou will know that it was the Lord when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we? You are not grumbling against us, but against the Lord.\u201d (Exodus 16:8 GW)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entitlement causes grumbling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right after Moses performs ten miraculous signs that cause Pharoah to release the Israelites from slavery, they start grumbling.  Instead of working in horrible conditions, they are free to move into the promised land.  But the Israelites aren\u2019t satisfied; they want more. Entitlement<\/a> is the \u201c<\/em>belief that one is deserving of or entitled to certain privileges.<\/em>\u201d  <\/em>The Israelites felt entitled; they believed they deserved more from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think the Israelites are a bunch of spoiled brats.  Seriously, Moses parted the Red Sea on the way out of Egypt, and they don\u2019t believe God will feed them? How can they watch the water part, walkthrough on dry ground, and not have faith?  But then, I realize I\u2019m a spoiled brat.  Each day God provides food to eat, health to work, and a bed to sleep.  But yet I want more.  Entitlement affects everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gratitude defeats grumbling.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus on what you have instead of what you don\u2019t have.  Look around and start thanking God.  For starters, you have a device from which to read God\u2019s word and devotionals.  More than likely, you have clothes on your back, a chair where you can sit, and a roof over your head.  God\u2019s provision is abundant in your life, as in mine.  We have nothing to grumble about, yet we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of grumbling for what you don\u2019t have, praise God for what you do have.  Trust that He knows your every need and will provide it.  Don\u2019t confuse need with want.  God provides wherever He guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lord, how grateful we are for Your provision in our lives.  Forgive us for our entitlement.  Help us remember today all You have done for us.  Just as you led the Israelites out of slavery, lead us out of our traps.  Give us eyes to see the miraculous works You do for us every day.  Let our hearts overflow with gratitude for what You have done.  Give us confidence in our soul; whatever we genuinely need, You will provide.  IJNIP. Amen<\/p>\n\n\n\n
