{"id":290,"date":"2018-02-28T02:01:35","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T02:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=290"},"modified":"2019-12-10T08:44:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T13:44:11","slug":"when-there-are-no-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2018\/02\/28\/when-there-are-no-words\/","title":{"rendered":"When There Are No Words"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>&#8220;Then you will call\u00a0on me and come and pray\u00a0to me, and I will listen\u00a0to you.&#8221; Jeremiah 29:12<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nWhen tragedy strikes, there are no words.\u00a0 The feeling of helplessness can be overwhelming.\u00a0 The pain felt for those involved is paralyzing.\u00a0 It is almost unspeakable. As a result, people shy away because they are afraid they will say the wrong thing.<br \/>\nThe truth is, there are words, and they are simple.\u00a0 &#8220;I love you.\u00a0 I&#8217;m praying for you.&#8221;\u00a0 Those are all the words you need to say.\u00a0 What people need in the midst of tragedy is your presence.\u00a0 Your support.\u00a0 They need you to pray for them when they don&#8217;t know what to pray.\u00a0 When their grief and their pain is so extreme, they can barely breathe they need you to do it for them.\u00a0 They need you to stand in the gap and pray for them.\u00a0 They need you to hold them in their arms and love them.\u00a0 They need your presence.<br \/>\nWhen my nephew died four years ago the first words I said to his Mom at the hospital were &#8220;Can I hug you?&#8221;\u00a0 She fell in my arms and cried.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t utter another word.\u00a0 As we moved through the days that followed, I talked little.\u00a0 I hugged much.\u00a0 There weren&#8217;t words I could ever say that would bring her son back, but I could hold her while she cried.\u00a0 I could be present for her.<br \/>\nAnd while I held her I prayed.\u00a0 I prayed for her and my brother. I prayed for God to comfort them.\u00a0 I prayed for my niece as she walked through losing her brother.\u00a0 I prayed for them to feel His presence.\u00a0 I prayed for God to give them strength for the days and years ahead.\u00a0 I asked God to show me how I could help, what could I do?\u00a0 I stood in the gap for them when they couldn&#8217;t pray.<br \/>\nI prayed, then I prayed some more.<br \/>\nIn the midst of tragedy, it isn&#8217;t your words people will remember, it is your presence.\u00a0 It is your prayers they need, your specific and passionate prayers as you cry out to God for them on their behalf.\u00a0 God is in the midst of tragedy:<br \/>\n<em><span id=\"en-NIV-14240\" class=\"text Ps-23-4\">&#8220;Even though I walk<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"text Ps-23-4\">through the darkest valley,<\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-23-4\">I will fear no evil,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"text Ps-23-4\">for you are with me;<\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-23-4\">your rod and your staff,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"text Ps-23-4\">they comfort me.&#8221; Psalm 23:4<\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\nTragedy has occurred in the lives of dear friends.\u00a0 There are no words to describe the depth of pain it has left in their lives.\u00a0 My message was simple when I called, &#8220;I love you.\u00a0 I&#8217;m praying for you. What can I do?&#8221;<br \/>\nEven though there is nothing physically I can do, I can pray.\u00a0 I can continue to pray for them as they move through the days ahead.\u00a0 I can be present for them, for their loved ones, for their church.<br \/>\nI am praying they find God in the midst of this tragedy.\u00a0 I am praying He reveals himself to them.\u00a0 I am praying they feel His presence in the midst of this darkness.\u00a0 I am praying He comforts their broken hearts.\u00a0 I am praying continuously for all of the lives which have been affected by this terrible loss.
