{"id":2684,"date":"2020-11-07T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-07T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=2684"},"modified":"2020-11-23T12:39:01","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T17:39:01","slug":"how-quickly-do-you-forget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2020\/11\/07\/how-quickly-do-you-forget\/","title":{"rendered":"HOW QUICKLY DO YOU FORGET?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4 minute read<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cBut they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold.\u201d (Psalm 106:13 NIV)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We forget God\u2019s works too quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We wouldn\u2019t worry if we had a better memory.&nbsp; Every time a crisis arises, instead of panicking, we would have faith.&nbsp; Recalling what God did in the past gives us hope for the future.&nbsp; Instead of trying to handle the situation in our power, we\u2019d wait for God\u2019s plan.&nbsp; Remembering is essential in the life of a Christ-Follower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cRemember His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations.\u201d <\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%20105%3A8&amp;version=NIV\">Psalm 105:8 NIV<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not only do we forget what God did for us, we forget what He did for others.&nbsp; We forget He parted the Red Sea for Moses (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus%2014:21-31&amp;version=NIV\">Exodus 14:21-31 NIV<\/a>).&nbsp; Or that the walls of Jericho tumbled for Joshua (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Joshua%206&amp;version=NIV\">Joshua 6:1-27 NIV<\/a>).&nbsp; God\u2019s provision for Ruth through Boaz, Esther\u2019s position that saved the Jews, all forgotten quickly (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ruth%201-4&amp;version=NIV\">Ruth 1-4 NIV<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Esther%204%3A14&amp;version=NIV\">Esther 4:14 NIV<\/a>).&nbsp; Even having written accounts of God\u2019s goodness penned by different authors over centuries, doesn\u2019t help us recollect all He has done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Daily discipline helps remember.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each morning when you open God\u2019s word, it\u2019s a reminder of His power.&nbsp; Through the pages of the Bible, story after story affirms God\u2019s sovereignty.&nbsp; His love is apparent as He patiently forgives time, and again the Israelites follies.&nbsp; Jesus\u2019s entrance into the world ushered in a revolutionary way of life none can deny.&nbsp; Resurrection gives way to eternal life for all who believe in its power.&nbsp; But if we don\u2019t open the book, we forget the power found in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Joshua and the Israelites passed through the Jordan river, God told them to set up 12 stones to remember the event (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Joshua%204&amp;version=NIV\">Joshua 4 NIV<\/a>).&nbsp; Joshua told the Israelites when people ask them what the stones mean, tell them how God stopped the flow of the Jordan river for the Ark of the Covenant to pass.&nbsp; The visual reminder not only helped the Israelites remember but also was an opportunity to share God\u2019s goodness with others. Downs<\/a> is a Bible study I did years ago.\u00a0 The premise of the book is to save momentos from God moments in your life.\u00a0 When I did the study, I created a \u201cLooking for Lovely\u201d mason jar, <a href=\"https:\/\/photos.app.goo.gl\/6HShPMrNhZ43uksDA\">pictured here<\/a>.\u00a0 Inside the wide-mouthed jar are a variety of things that remind me of moments with God.\u00a0 One is a score card from a special round of golf.\u00a0 A napkin from a momentous wedding, and party favor from a wonderful birthday celebration.\u00a0 All reminders of ways God moves in my life.\u00a0 Whenever I need reminding of God\u2019s goodness, I look in the jar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Find a way to remember what God does for you.
