{"id":267,"date":"2018-02-05T05:13:10","date_gmt":"2018-02-05T05:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=267"},"modified":"2019-12-10T08:44:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T13:44:11","slug":"267","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2018\/02\/05\/267\/","title":{"rendered":"This Is Us!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>\u00a0&#8220;<span class=\"verse-26\">Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.&#8221;\u00a0 Proverbs 14:26<\/span><\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nI just watched &#8220;This is Us&#8221;, the episode that explained how their dad died.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t watch the show, you will have no idea what I&#8217;m talking about, which is completely fine.<br \/>\nI am a woman who lost her dad when she was 16 years old.\u00a0 It touched a lot of heart strings for me.\u00a0 More than I realized were still there.\u00a0 As\u00a0 I watched the show, as I watched them tell the daughter her daddy was gone, it broke my heart.\u00a0 I remember the day my Dad died.\u00a0 Like Kate in the show, I have regrets.\u00a0 There were things I could of done that I didn&#8217;t, like go visit him at the hospital.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t go that day, I wanted to sleep in.\u00a0 I knew the minute my Mom and little brother pulled out of the driveway I had made a mistake.\u00a0 It was too late.<br \/>\nI called Dad.\u00a0 He answered the phone.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll never forget it.\u00a0 I was crying.\u00a0 I told him I was so sorry I didn&#8217;t come.\u00a0 He forgave me.\u00a0 Then he told me it was time to say goodbye.\u00a0 Somehow, he knew too.\u00a0 I will never understand how he knew.\u00a0 He let me off the hook.\u00a0 He told me he would see me again.\u00a0 I had the opportunity to tell him one last time I loved him.\u00a0 He told me he loved me too and he would see me soon.<br \/>\nHe didn&#8217;t die that day, at around 4:00 in the afternoon he drifted into a coma.\u00a0 My Mom and little brother had barely arrived home when the hospital called us.\u00a0 We immediately rushed to the hospital to be by his side.<br \/>\nHe died two and a half days later.\u00a0 That is how long it took for all of his family to get there.\u00a0 The last was my sister-in-law who came from VA.\u00a0 Her and my Dad a special relationship.\u00a0 He waited for her.\u00a0 It was moments afterwards that he passed.\u00a0 We were all standing around his bed as he took his last breath.<br \/>\nIt was surreal.\u00a0 He took one long breath.\u00a0 I thought that was it, then he took another long breath.\u00a0 Then he was gone.\u00a0 I see it as clearly as if it was yesterday.<br \/>\nWhen my Dad died, I lost my hero.\u00a0 He was perfect in my eyes.\u00a0 Learning that he wasn&#8217;t was a hard lesson.\u00a0 I had him on such a pedestal that when he fell off it, let&#8217;s just say it sent my world into turmoil.<br \/>\nI was so young when my Dad died, yet I hear him in my head. &#8220;If you&#8217;re going to do something, do it right!&#8221;\u00a0 or &#8220;Don&#8217;t do it half a**ed, do it right!&#8221;\u00a0 My Dad was big on doing it to the best of your ability.\u00a0 &#8220;Do it right or don&#8217;t do it at all.&#8221;\u00a0 That has served me well in my life.<br \/>\nMy favorite job is my volunteer job.\u00a0 I love being able to give my time away.\u00a0 I love that God signs my check.\u00a0 He signs my benefits.\u00a0 I love giving it my all.\u00a0 In my head, I hear my Dad.\u00a0 I hear his euphemisms in my head and I work harder.\u00a0 \u00a0My most favorite thing is doing it right.
