{"id":2577,"date":"2020-10-07T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=2577"},"modified":"2020-09-26T11:33:33","modified_gmt":"2020-09-26T16:33:33","slug":"what-should-you-think-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2020\/10\/07\/what-should-you-think-about\/","title":{"rendered":"WHAT SHOULD YOU THINK ABOUT?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cSet your minds on things above, not on earthly things.\u201d (Colossians 3:2 NIV)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think about God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we\u2019re to set our minds on things above, we have to focus our thoughts on God.&nbsp; We do that by engaging in His word, hanging with His people, and seeking a closer relationship with Him as a result.&nbsp; One lie to debunk, you can\u2019t control your thoughts.&nbsp; Yes, you can.&nbsp; Choose what you think about, stop stinking thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After my father died, when I was a teenager, I struggled with bulimia.&nbsp; In my sophomore year of college, I was in counseling for the emotional disorder about control.&nbsp; Because I felt out of control with my father\u2019s passing, I tried to gain control through eating.&nbsp; As I came away from that period of life, I learned the power of choice.&nbsp; We can control our brains; we can find healthy ways to deal with the hurts of life.&nbsp; You can regulate what you think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Control your thoughts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What helps me focus my thoughts on God is starting my day with a quiet time.&nbsp; Reading His word each morning brings Him to the forefront of my mind.&nbsp; As the day progresses, inevitably, something happens that reminds me of what I read in the morning. &nbsp; This practice helps me curb my thoughts and look to things, not of this world.&nbsp; God\u2019s word can help you, as well:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWe demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.\u201d (<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Corinthians%2010:4-5&amp;version=NIV\"><em>2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Controlling our thoughts requires capturing the bad ones.&nbsp; One visual I use is an airplane coming in for a landing.&nbsp; As the plane approaches, it asks for permission to land from the Air Traffic Control Tower.&nbsp; If denied, they must keep flying.&nbsp; In the same way, thoughts pour into our heads, asking permission to land.&nbsp; We can grant or deny their request; we have the choice.&nbsp; If it\u2019s decline, let the thought keep on going, right on out the other side.&nbsp; Don\u2019t let any ideas land you don\u2019t want in your head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When my mind starts going places it shouldn\u2019t go, I seek God.&nbsp; Usually, the prayer is something like, \u201cLord, take control of my mind,\u201d or \u201cGod reveal your truth to me.\u201d &nbsp; My choice in controlling my thoughts begins with God.&nbsp; He helps me manage the runway of my mind.&nbsp; Allowing His word clearance for landing paves the way for victory over my mind.&nbsp; As I learn more and more about His promises, it\u2019s easier to control my thoughts. &nbsp; When lies try to land, the truth sends them flying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/topical-verses\/gods-promises-verses-in-the-bible\/\">God\u2019s promises<\/a> to send negative thoughts flying.&nbsp; When you give His word permission to land, your thought life will change.&nbsp; Gain victory over your thoughts with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Question of the Day:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">What thoughts are you letting land in your mind?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Further Reading: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Jeremiah%208:8-9:26&amp;version=NIV\">Jeremiah 8:8-9:26 NIV<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Colossians%203:1-17&amp;version=NIV\">Colossians 3:1-17 NIV<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%2078:32-55&amp;version=NIV\">Psalm 78:32-55 NIV<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs%2024%3A27&amp;version=NIV\">Proverbs 24:27 NIV<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cSet your minds on things above, not on earthly things.\u201d (Colossians 3:2 NIV) Think about God.
