Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number.\u201d (Jeremiah 2:32 NIV)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women don\u2019t forget their jewelry, men don\u2019t forget their wallets, but we all forget God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeremiah was a young prophet called by God to carry a message of repentance to the people he loved.&nbsp; His message is timeless because sin never ends.&nbsp; The idols of Jeremiah\u2019s day, wealth, talent, and position are the same as today.&nbsp; His book is the longest in the Bible.&nbsp; According to the New Spirit-Filled Life Bible, Jeremiah understood relationship with God is moral and spiritual.&nbsp; We are responsible for the sin in our lives.&nbsp; Bad behavior has consequences.&nbsp; The new covenant with Jesus is a spiritual bond that forgives our sin, remembering it no longer.&nbsp; Does God\u2019s forgiveness mean we won\u2019t suffer the consequences of our actions? No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alcohol offers an easy analogy.&nbsp; If you drink too much, it\u2019s a sin.&nbsp; God\u2019s word tells us moderation is vital.&nbsp; Overindulging is gluttony, and alcohol has the potential to take the place of God in your life.&nbsp; When you repent, God forgives.&nbsp; He loves unconditionally and accepts you with open arms.&nbsp; But you still have the hangover the next morning.&nbsp; Our battle with sin becomes a tug-of-war between our fleshly desires and our spiritual ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Battling our sinful nature deepens our relationship with God.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the best illustrations I\u2019ve heard was in a sermon long ago.&nbsp; The pastor said a man struggling with alcohol addiction came to see him.&nbsp; He asked the clergyman, \u201cWhy doesn\u2019t God take away my desire to drink alcohol?\u201d&nbsp; The man said he hadn\u2019t drank in a long time, but each day he battled the desire to succumb to temptation.&nbsp; With sincerity, the pastor asked, \u201cWhat kept him from drinking?&nbsp; \u201dSimple,\u201d the man said, \u201cevery day I ask God to help me not drink.\u201d &nbsp; Pointing out with love, the pastor said, \u201cWould you pray every day if you didn\u2019t have this battle?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, in our desperation, we find God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus spent 40 days and nights in the desert, fasting.&nbsp; To say He was hungry when the devil tried to convince him to turn stones into bread is an understatement.&nbsp; Jesus didn\u2019t succumb; instead, He responded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIt is written: \u2018Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.\u2019\u201d (<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%204%3A4&amp;version=NIV\"><em>Matthew 4:4 NIV<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another thing most people won\u2019t forget is their cell phone.&nbsp; Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.life.church\/\">Life Church<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youversion.com\/the-bible-app\/\">Youversion app<\/a>, that also means you have easy access to God\u2019s word.&nbsp; In days of old, you had to carry the Bible with you in book format, now it\u2019s pages are available at the touch of a finger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Access God\u2019s word to fight your battles.&nbsp; Memorize His promises, so they become something you never forget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Question of the Day:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">What promise of God\u2019s do you need to memorize today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Further Reading: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Jeremiah%202:31-4:18&amp;version=NIV\">Jeremiah 2:31-4:18 NIV<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Colossians%201:1-17&amp;version=NIV\">Colossians 1:1-17 NIV<\/a>,&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%2076&amp;version=NIV\">Psalm 76 NIV<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs%2024%3A21-22&amp;version=NIV\">Proverbs 24:21-22 NIV<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cDoes a young woman forget her jewelry, a bride her wedding ornaments?
