{"id":254,"date":"2018-01-24T16:34:55","date_gmt":"2018-01-24T16:34:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=254"},"modified":"2019-12-10T08:44:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T13:44:11","slug":"learning-a-new-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2018\/01\/24\/learning-a-new-language\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning a New Language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>&#8220;Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, &#8220;TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,&#8221;\u00a0 Hebrews 3:7<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nI&#8217;m listening to the book &#8220;Whispers&#8221; by Mark Batterson.\u00a0 It&#8217;s about hearing the voice of God.\u00a0 He compares learning to hear from God like learning a new language.\u00a0 He uses the analogy of Helen Keller,\u00a0 who at 19 months old contracted an illness which caused her to go deaf and blind.\u00a0 As a result of this,\u00a0 she honed her sense of touch to such a degree she could listen to music by placing her hands on the radio, sensing the difference in instruments by the changing vibrations.\u00a0 She learned to &#8220;hear&#8221; words by placing her hands on a persons&#8217; larnyx and &#8220;feeling&#8221; the vibrations of the vocal cords.\u00a0 She learned to communicate through sign language.\u00a0 As a result she was the first deaf and blind person to receive a Bachelors of Art Degree.<br \/>\nEffectively, Helen Keller learned a new language to communicate and live in the world.\u00a0 It was adapted to her circumstances, her life, her abilities.<br \/>\nWhen we hear from God, we are doing the same thing.\u00a0 We are learning a new language.
