{"id":2412,"date":"2020-08-16T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-16T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=2412"},"modified":"2020-08-03T12:43:43","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T17:43:43","slug":"what-idols-do-you-have-in-your-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2020\/08\/16\/what-idols-do-you-have-in-your-life\/","title":{"rendered":"WHAT IDOLS DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>\u201cTherefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.\u201d (1 Cor. 10:14 NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Idols rule you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/browse\/idol\">definition of idol <\/a>is<em> <\/em><em>an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed.&nbsp; <\/em>The biblical definition is<em> an image of a deity other than God, the deity itself.&nbsp; <\/em>Things we idolize in America: jobs, cars, relationships, sports, religion.&nbsp; The list is truly endless. Pets, homes, vacations, alcohol&#8230;anything you worship is an idol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From a Christ follower\u2019s perspective, anything that gets in the way of your relationship with God is an idol.&nbsp; My tennis racquet was a recent idol God asked me to give up.&nbsp; As a tennis player, I had 2 racquets, one a backup in case I broke a string.&nbsp; Racquets are very personal.&nbsp; Everyone likes something different.&nbsp; When I find ones I like, I stick with them for as long as I can.&nbsp; The two I have now are my all time favorites for various reasons.&nbsp; Teaching a tennis camp a couple weeks ago, I had a prompting to give one to a student who didn\u2019t have a racquet.&nbsp; My instant response was \u201cNo way, not my racquets.\u201d I realized in that moment, my racquets were idols. I gave the racquet away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>You can rule idols.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Years ago, I did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daveramsey.com\/\">Dave Ramsey\u2019<\/a>s money management course.&nbsp; Great course, taught me how to handle finances Biblically.&nbsp; One of the areas addressed is tithing, giving 10% back to God.&nbsp; Tithing isn\u2019t about money, tithing is about faith.&nbsp; Do you have faith God will do more with the 90% in your life than you will do with the 100%?&nbsp; Money is an idol we all battle.&nbsp; The love of money is the root of evil:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cFor the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.\u201d (<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Timothy+6%3A10&amp;version=NIV\"><em>1 Timothy 6:10 NIV<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tithing breaks the love of money.&nbsp; The best way to \u201coffend\u201d money is to give it away.&nbsp; The lure of money is seductive.&nbsp; So many different ways money affects people.&nbsp; We all need it to live.&nbsp; Money can easily consume our thoughts.&nbsp; But when you give it away to God, you\u2019re putting money in its place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, money is important.&nbsp; Yes, you need money to live.&nbsp; But without God you wouldn\u2019t have life, nor money.&nbsp; God first, money second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demolish idols by putting them in their place:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><\/strong><em>Submit yourselves, then, to God.
