{"id":2350,"date":"2020-07-27T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-27T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=2350"},"modified":"2020-07-17T05:59:25","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T10:59:25","slug":"deep-waters-of-the-heart-are-penetrated-with-insight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2020\/07\/27\/deep-waters-of-the-heart-are-penetrated-with-insight\/","title":{"rendered":"DEEP WATERS OF THE HEART ARE PENETRATED WITH INSIGHT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>\u201cThe purposes of a person\u2019s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.\u201d (Proverbs 20:5 NIV)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asking the right questions leads to insight.&nbsp; Everyone has a story to tell.&nbsp; Every story matters.&nbsp; The longer we are on earth, the more entangled our stories.&nbsp; The more entangled our stories, the deeper the waters of our hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My 51st birthday is less than two months away.&nbsp; I\u2019ve begun to realize, in the past year, how deep the waters of our heart really are.&nbsp; When I was younger, I would hear stories of people older than me dealing with issues that happened decades ago.&nbsp; I never understood, until now, why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Life\u2019s events take time to process.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June of 2014, I had a major car accident.\u00a0 My mother passed away in February of that year. My nephew passed away in September.\u00a0 In October, I was traveling for work, staying in Washington D.C.\u00a0 The evening I arrived in our nation\u2019s capital, I called home to my husband.\u00a0 I immediately started interrogating him about his day.\u00a0 In mid sentence, he stopped me.\u00a0 He informed me I needed to quit my job.\u00a0 His words flabbergasted me.\u00a0 How could I quit my job of 16 years?\u00a0 He explained why, \u201cYou think you\u2019re handling life well, but you\u2019re not.\u201d\u00a0 He was right, the stress of life was winning the battle with me.\u00a0 The next day, I called my boss of over a decade and had a long talk. \u00a0 She understood because she knew what I had been through.\u00a0 We planned my exit from the company together.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the process of healing, I went to counseling.&nbsp; I learned in those sessions, I suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/post-traumatic-stress-disorder\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20355967\"><strong><em>Post<\/em><\/strong><em>&#8211;<\/em><strong><em>traumatic stress disorder<\/em><\/strong><em> (<\/em><strong><em>PTSD<\/em><\/strong><\/a><em>) is a mental health condition that&#8217;s triggered by a terrifying event \u2014 either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My husband\u2019s insight into the deep waters of my heart led me to healing.&nbsp; The therapist&#8217;s insight into the events of my life gave me understanding.&nbsp; PTSD, in my mind, was a war related condition for soldiers.&nbsp; Until I entered therapy, I didn\u2019t understand, I could have it too. My mother\u2019s death came after a long battle with cancer. The car accident and my nephew\u2019s death were traumatic events that affected me far deeper than I realized.&nbsp; My therapist helped me deal with those situations.&nbsp; She helped me heal because she asked the right questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therapy is a path to self-understanding.
