{"id":2200,"date":"2020-06-14T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-14T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=2200"},"modified":"2020-05-29T08:07:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T13:07:19","slug":"are-you-proud-of-your-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2020\/06\/14\/are-you-proud-of-your-parents\/","title":{"rendered":"ARE YOU PROUD OF YOUR PARENTS?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cChildren\u2019s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.\u201d (Proverbs 17:6 NIV)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today is the 34th anniversary of my father\u2019s death.\u00a0 I was 16 years old.\u00a0 His passing affected my life dramatically.\u00a0 I have lived twice as long without a father as I did with one.\u00a0 My mother never remarried.\u00a0 His influence on my life is irrefutable.\u00a0 My brothers and I share his mannerisms.\u00a0 We say his mantras.\u00a0 We vividly remember his impact on our lives at different moments.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When my mother passed 6 years ago, it devastated our lives.\u00a0 She was the center of our family.\u00a0 She helped us survive Dad\u2019s death, but now we were left on our own to survive hers.\u00a0 I\u2019m proud of my parents, not because of their perfections, but their imperfections.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My parents gave me life.&nbsp; As Madea said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=K5qXq4M2Uv0\">\u201cMadea Goes to Jail\u201d<\/a>, your parents gave you life, they didn\u2019t have to do that.&nbsp; But they did:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEveryone has got a life.&nbsp; What you do with that life is up to you.\u201d&nbsp; Madea<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Your parents chose life, they chose you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve watched any movie or sitcom about expecting parents, you realize quickly the daunting task of raising children.&nbsp; I never had children, my niece and nephews are the closest I have come.&nbsp; I do know, parenting isn\u2019t easy.&nbsp; I heard this phrase long ago, I think it represents parenting well:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cMaking the decision to have a child &#8211; it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. \u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u2015 <\/em><strong><em>Elizabeth Stone<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having issues with our parents is a part of life.&nbsp; No one on this earth has a perfect parent.&nbsp; My Dad had an explosive temper.&nbsp; My mother could hold a grudge.&nbsp; But they tried.
