{"id":2119,"date":"2020-05-17T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-17T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.honestreflections.net\/?p=2119"},"modified":"2020-05-06T05:49:31","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T10:49:31","slug":"what-happens-when-you-focus-on-the-wrong-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.honestreflections.net\/index.php\/2020\/05\/17\/what-happens-when-you-focus-on-the-wrong-thing\/","title":{"rendered":"WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FOCUS ON THE WRONG THING?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cNeither this man nor his parents sinned,\u201d said Jesus, \u201cbut this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.\u201d (John 9:3 NIV)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you focus on the wrong thing, you miss the point.&nbsp; Jesus is walking along with His boys when He says the above words.&nbsp; A blind man is sitting along the road.&nbsp; The disciples ask Jesus,<em> <\/em><em>&nbsp;\u201cRabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?\u201d (<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+9%3A2&amp;version=NIV\"><em>John 9:2 NIV<\/em><\/a><em>).&nbsp; <\/em>Today\u2019s scripture is His response: \u201cNeither\u2026\u201d. The disciples focused on sin, the wrong thing.&nbsp; Jesus focused on God\u2019s purpose.&nbsp; When we focus on sin, we miss God\u2019s purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When we focus on sin, we miss God\u2019s purpose.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Magician\u2019s use <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Misdirection_(magic)\">misdirection<\/a> in their acts.&nbsp; After capturing the audience\u2019s attention, the magician misdirects it to distract them.&nbsp; While the audience focuses on the misdirection, the magician does his trick.&nbsp; The trick isn\u2019t magic.&nbsp; A good magician knows how to direct the audience\u2019s attention at all times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Satan uses misdirection as well.&nbsp; He wants us focused on people\u2019s sin. He doesn\u2019t want us focused on people.&nbsp; Satan knows, when we focus on other\u2019s sin, we miss God\u2019s purpose.&nbsp; Jesus&nbsp; gave us our purpose on earth with these words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cLove the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.<\/em><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>The second is this: \u2018Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.\u201d (<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark+12%3A30-31&amp;version=NIV\"><em>Mark 12:30-31 NIV<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our purpose on earth: Love God, love others.&nbsp; The Greatest Commandment is simple.&nbsp; We make it complicated.&nbsp; Instead of loving the sinner, we condemn him.&nbsp; Hate the sin, love the sinner.&nbsp; Jesus looked past the sin, he loved the person.&nbsp; The disciples exemplify Jesus\u2019s ability to use sinful people to accomplish God\u2019s purpose through love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter struggled with pride <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+26%3A33-35&amp;version=NIV\">(Matthew 26: 33-35 NIV<\/a>). &nbsp; Matthew was a tax collector (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+9%3A9&amp;version=NIV\">Mathew 9:9 NIV<\/a>).&nbsp; Judas betrayed Jesus (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+26%3A14-16&amp;version=NIV\">Matthew 26:14,16 NIV<\/a>).&nbsp; Jesus loved them all, despite their sins.&nbsp; Saul of Tarsus, became Paul after he met Jesus.&nbsp; Saul tortured and killed Christians.&nbsp; He was an unbeliever who did unthinkable things.&nbsp; But Jesus loved him anyway:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><\/strong><em>During the journey, as he approached Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven encircled him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice asking him, \u201cSaul, Saul, why are you harassing me?\u201d&nbsp; <\/em><strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><em>Saul asked, \u201cWho are you, Lord?\u201d \u201cI am Jesus, whom you are harassing,\u201d came the reply. <\/em><strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><em>\u201cNow get up and enter the city. You will be told what you must do.\u201d (<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/niv\/Acts%209.3-6\"><em>Acts 9: 3-6 NIV<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are all sinners in need of grace.&nbsp; In our imperfection, Jesus loves us.
